Why I think it is important for Kansas government officials to operate in the light of day, rather than in secret, behind closed doors:
Legislators have a unique position of power in that they create the laws by which we are governed. With that comes the responsibility to act in our best interests. By encouraging transparency in the legislative process, we remove much of the temptation to act on behalf of special interests, whether for monetary or political gain. It allows the constituency to make more informed decisions come election time, and helps our state progress forward rather than remaining stagnant. It ensures the most active legislators who advocate for effective change are rewarded with re-election, while the "wait-and-see" politicians are replaced.
