Mythbuster: Ariana Cherry
Why I think it is important for Kansas government officials to operate in the light of day, rather than in secret, behind closed doors:
Ariana leads the DeKalb County Health Rocks Action Leaders to educate and motivate younger youth in the metro Atlanta city of Decatur.
Each summer, Ariana and her Health Rocks team in Atlanta teach classes to youth during summer day camps at county recreation centers. Ariana and her team lead classes on dangers of smoking, drugs, alcohol and stress.
The Health Rocks Action Leaders, Ariana among them, have reached more than 3,925 young people in DeKalb County over the last five summers.
The Health Rocks program is designed to provide youth with the necessary skills to successfully deal with potentially violent situations presented in everyday life, to cope with peer pressure and to avoid destructive behaviors such as drug abuse, overeating and smoking.
Ariana also serves as a District 4-H Officer for Northwest District 4-H Board of Directors for Georgia 4-H. She is also a member of Clovers and Company, the premier performing arts group for Georgia 4-H. Ariana is an outstanding candidate for Top 24 Under 24 Drug Mythbuster.
"Ariana Cherry is a dynamic youth changemaker in DeKalb County, Georgia," say nominators Cheryl and Marilyn. "She sets a good example every day!"
She has been selected to attend the National Drug Facts Weeks Event at the National 4-H Center on January 30.
