In this commentary, Ellen Gannett, Director of the National Institute on Out of School Time, reflects on the history of out-of-school time and what expanded learning opportunities means to the field. Partnerships in afterschool have existed in a variety forms over the years. Now school and afterschool leaders are embracing partnerships with a renewed enthusiasm with expanded learning opportunities as a strategy to fully integrate schools and afterschool community-based organizations into a seamless day and year.
