Democracy Day Kicks Off Nation-Wide

Yesterday, March 23rd, students across the country participated in the first ever Democracy Day.  From California to Virginia, teachers and students participated in the kick-off of Rock the Vote's innovative new curriculum Democracy Class with a little help from Cali Swag District and Glee's Darren Criss.  During a 45-minute, non-partisan lesson plan geared towards teenagers, students learn the history of voting rights, walk through the voter registration process, and engage in a mock election.  Democracy Day was just the start - learn more about how you can bring Democracy Class to your community and school by visiting www.democracyclass.com. 

FIRST ANNUAL DEMOCRACY DAY - MARCH 23, 2011
Forty years ago, educators and students stood together and fought to lower the voting age to 18.  In doing so, they amended the Constitution and empowered millions of American citizens to have a say in our democracy. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the passage of the 26th Amendment, Rock the Vote, in partnership with the National Education Association and SparkAction launched the first annual Democracy Day.

To kick things off right, Rock the Vote is hosting a contest for educators and students to win cool prize packs.  For educators, you just need to return your evaluation form along with your students’ “Keep on Rocking the Vote” cards using the provided pre-addressed stamped envelope.  For students, anyone who fills out the “Keep on Rocking the Vote” card and returns it to their teacher will be entered to win.

Rock the Vote will randomly choose two educators and five lucky students to receive the following:
