The House Agriculture Committee found nearly all of its savings ($33.2 billion over 10 years) from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps). This translates into an 11 percent cut in the monthly benefit for an average family of four.

Batali's guidance doesn't give the challenge and the need for food stamps enough credit, we can only hope that his discussion in the limelight will continue to bring awareness to the issue of hunger in the United States.
