The All Stars Project is a national nonprofit organization that uses performance to help young people in poor communities to develop — in other words — to be able to create success in their lives. The All Stars Project was founded in 1981, is headquartered in New York City, and reaches over 13,000 young people a year in New York, New Jersey, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area.
In All Stars programs, young people learn new performances both onstage and off. That’s how they begin to create new possibilities for themselves and their communities.
We have two core programs: the All Stars Talent Show Network, where young people produce and perform in hip hop talent show in their own neighborhoods; and the Development School for Youth, where young people receive leadership training and paid summer internships in partnership with the business community.
The All Stars Project also includes the Castillo Theatre and Youth Onstage, which involve young people and adults in cutting-edge political theatre. Other recent All Stars innovations are UX, a university style development institution for all ages, and Operation Conversation: Cops and Kids, a community relations initiative run in partnership with the NYPD.
The All Stars Project is 100% privately funded, mainly from individual donations. That means we can innovate and create new ways of solving the tough problems of poverty, violence and underdevelopment.
The developmental ideas pioneered by the All Stars Project are being looked upon as very successful and very cutting edge. And more and more, All Stars is being asked to lead the way to a new future of development for all communities, rich and poor.
