September 23, 2010, the Student Peace Alliance, in partnership with the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, World Vision, the ACLU and dozens of advocates from across the nation, hosted an event to educate Members and Hill staffers about the importance of the Youth PROMISE Act. The event, which featured an ice cream give-way sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s™ attracted more than 800 staffers from both the House and Senate. The Hill event was one of eight ice cream give-away events simultaneously hosted by the Student Peace Alliance and sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s across the nation in support of the Youth PROMISE Act.

The House version of the Youth PROMISE Act, H.R. 1064, is originally sponsored by U.S. Representatives Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) and Michael Castle (R-DE), has 235 co-sponsors. The Senate cross-file, S. 435, is originally sponsored by U.S. Senators Robert “Bob” Casey (D-PA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and has 16 co-sponsors. The House version was approved by the House Judiciary Committee on December 2, 2009. The bill now awaits consideration by another House Committee before moving to the floor.
