Pipeline from High School to Armed Forces, Military Careers Blocked for Many
Many young Americans seeking careers in
the U.S. Army do not meet the minimum academic standard for enlistment,
according to a new Ed Trust report.
Among applicants of color, the ineligibility rates to enter the Army
were even higher than the average: 29 percent of Hispanics and 39
percent of African Americans were ineligible, compared to 16 percent of
whites. What’s more, among those who did qualify and enlist, recruits of
color often scored lower than their white peers.
