My idea will allow a college education to be a bit more affordable for young people and their families. A positive increase in the amount of young people who are able to attend and graduate with a higher education would benefit both the communities and the economy of our nation. Through community service efforts, provided to colleges and universities, these young people can build up the community service hours and trade them in for academic course hours. This would allow them to take a certain amount of credits at that particular institution and have them move closer to their degree.
This trading of community service hours for college credits, would allow these institutions to get necessary employment positions filled at a cheaper cost and they would be able to recieve attention from prospective students. This may also save them money when it comes to their marketing stratergies for incoming students.
The young people, on the other hand, would gain community service hours for their resume, experience within a working position and most importantly, they would be able to cut the cost of their future tuition by the amount of a few classes.
$1.6 trillion is spent by taxpayers in order to financially support these young people due to the fact that they may not obtain the necessary training for certain positions of employment. If these young people did get the opportunity to recieve a higher education, trillions of dollars would be saved and used for the continued development of our weakest communities.
My name is Shaakirah Medford and I am a youth ambassador for the All Stars Project and the Youth Leadership Institute. These organizations revolve around youth development and have provided me with a life's purpose of working for the young people of our future.
Education is very important to me and I honestly do not feel that anyone should be denied the right of recieving one. I will personally do everything in my power to make sure that our young people recieve all that they need to be successful; thus, this is the reason for my Spark Opportunity idea.
