Social Media & Editorial Intern
SparkAction is seeking an intern skilled in social media and blogging to support efforts to grow our online reach and networks. This is a 3+ month internship, with an option to work virtually or in-office. In addition to gaining relevant work experience and professional development, the intern will also receive a stipend for his/her work. SparkAction is managed by the Forum for Youth Investment, a nonprofit, nonpartisan Washington, DC-based "action tank dedicated to helping communities and the nation make sure all young people are ready by age 21 for work, college and life.
- Help manage and grow SparkAction's social media presence
- Build a community of commentators and activists
- Manage relationships with partners via social media and email outreach
- Identify potential content contributors, with an emphasis on youth voice
- Flag key news and issues for SparkAction's areas of focus
- Compile and produce blog posts as needed
- Research as needed
- Other duties as required
The ideal candidate must be passionate about social media and its effective use to engage and mobilize social change movements, as well as the use of tools to evaluate impact and adapt approaches accordingly. He or she must be familiar with Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ administration, as well as management tools such as HootSuite or TweetDeck, and possess robust written and verbal communications skills and be highly motivated and proactive. Interest in and knowledge of youth engagement, social justice issues and child/youth policy desired. This position is open to both graduate and undergraduate students, and early-career professionals looking for an internship of this type.
