Report Roundup: Challenges and Opportunities in After-School Programs: Lessons for Policymakers and Funders
The brief report looks at several aspects of after-school program planning following an evaluation of the Extended-Service Schools (ESS) Adaptation Initiative. The report examines the capabilities of the ESS design in three aspects: use and access of school space; which youth are being reached; and transportation. The authors find that certain problems, such as overcrowding, uninterested older students and transportation costs, are key elements that can keep an after-school program in the ESS model from reaching its goals. 20 pages. $3.
