ADA Position on Dietary Guidance for Healthy Children

May 26, 2004

A new American Dietetic Association study finds that while under-nutrition is rare in the United States, food insecurity is not. Children participating in the National School Lunch Program are more likely to eat healthier foods, and both children and adults are eating more often in restaurants, where fruits, vegetables, low-fat milk and other low-fat options tend to be more limited than in home-cooked meals. The bottom line: families, schools and communities have a shared responsibility in shaping healthy habits for children.
