CLC Children's 2016 Investment Toolkit

By overwhelming margins across all major demographic groups, Americans (70 percent) say the nation’s children would be better off if government did more to support children, youth and families, rather than “got out of the way.” 

June 28, 2016 —The Children’s Leadership Council has released a national public opinion poll that finds that 70 percent of Americans believe children would be better off if government did more for children and families, and 63 percent of Americans favor Congress increasing funding for programs and services to meet children's needs.

It is notable that in this election year, an overwhelming majority of Americans say they are more likely to vote for a candidate who commits to making child well-being policies a priority if elected, especially in the areas of child abuse and family violence (75 percent); child poverty and hunger (71 percent); and child health (67 percent).

New! Public Opinion Shows Voters Strongly Favor Investments in Children & Youth
A new poll commissioned by the Children’s Leadership Council finds that a strong majority (63 percent) of Americans want more funding for programs that support children and young people. More than three in five adults strongly favor expanded spending to improve education,health and nutrition.

It is especially notable that in this election year, an overwhelming majority of Americans say they believe children’s lives would be better if government did more to support families.
