The path of progress for Johnson Elementary School could have been strewn with neighborhood strife andd hardship. Happily, it wasn't. Many dispaced residents ended up with better housing than they had when the project began. Many residents played very active roles in the planning process and saw their preferences not only honored, but also given precedence. Some discovered new skills and have gon on to professsional careers in community development. And the school has become a district-widebeacon for student learning and teacher professional development.
