Evaluations of Community Schools

This report offers preliminary findings from 49 community school initiatives (while the overall goal is education reform, all program evaluated include as a major component programming in the non-school hours). Outcomes targeted by the evaluations are organized into four categories: learning and achievement, social behavior and healthy youth development, family well-being, and community life. The programs included cover a broad continuum of models and program evolution, and the quality of studies varies significantly. In 46 of the programs evaluated, positive changes were observed in one or more outcome area.
