Do you know what EBT stands for? As more than 50 million Americans can tell you, for low-wage workers, it can make the difference between feeding a family and going hungry.

In Sept. 2013, the House narrowly passed a bill sponsored by Eric Cantor (R-Virg.) that would cut $40 billion from the food stamp program over the next 10 years. The New York Times reports that it would also require that adults between 18 and 50 without minor children be working or in a work-training program to qualify for food stamps, and would limit their benefit period to three months even if they are preparing for work or in job training. The bill is unlikely to pass in the Senate.
