"Museum Investigations in Science: A Program for Children and their Families" is a new, scholarship program of the American Museum of Natural History. Committed to reaching new, non-traditional audiences, the Museum worked in partnership with School District #9, in the Bronx in the creation of a pilot program. Targeting children in grades 3 through 5, with a strong science interest, 50 families were selected on the basis of teacher recommendation and a parent's (or significant adult's) willingness to participate. Selected families were bused to the Museum for four consecutive Saturday mornings in January 1998. The objective of the program was to create meaningful museum experiences for both parent and child, encouraging the development of lifelong relationships for these families with the Museum.
