Recession Boosts Child Poverty - Call For Strengthening Solutions

The annual census report on poverty, income and health data released September 16 indicates a record rise in poverty – the biggest jump since 1959 when this data was first collected. The steep jump in poverty rates, especially among young children, is grabbing the headlines. But here’s the key message – we do have programs in place that are working to help struggling families stay afloat. While these solutions are working – jobs programs, food stamps, child tax credits, earned income tax credits – they are under threat.
