Resumobile!
Sharing is caring
I believe that one reason that young people struggle to find jobs is that they don't have the basic job readiness training it requires to get out into the workforce and be taken seriously. The Resumobile would be a mobile writing center, built in my minivan, that would allow me to work with students to develop their resume right there on the spot. I will have a questionnaire they can fill out and, as they do so, it will allow us to build a resume in just half an hour. Then I'll email it to them, along with a list of sites that list job opportunities, and print them out a few copies to take with them.
I have so much faith in my friends and peers. I think they are brilliant and creative and they just need a chance to show the world what they are capable of. Some of them are smart but just not savvy as to how the job market works - and with the economy with the way it is right now, you have to be really savvy. I like helping people and build communities - and when I was young, my favorite thing on earth was hearing the ice cream truck! I'm not sure what kind of music the Resumobile will have, and I don't know if people will get as excited when they hear it as I did when I heard the ice cream truck, but I think it can do a lot of good and for not a lot of money.
