Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity

December 23, 2002

A teacher-led, year-long staff development process developed by the Wellesley Centers on Women that focuses on bringing teachers’ own experiences with diversity to bear as they learn how to teach in diverse school environments. Teachers meet monthly in small groups, focusing on their own experiences with and perceptions of diversity, and sharing strategies for teaching in diverse classrooms. SEED is one of a number of staff development models that focuses on ongoing teacher learning, the development of a professional community, and the existing expertise of teachers in order to create more effective learning environments. It has been implemented throughout the country.
