VIDEO: Department of Education Youth Voices

June 28, 2013

On June 27, 2013, the U.S. Department of Education hosted a discussion about how students are working to effect change in their school districts by making their voices heard in policy decisions.

The briefing session, moderated by SparkAction co-founder and Forum for Youth Investment Vice President of Policy Thaddeus Ferber, spotlighted two organizations in urban school districts—Boston and Baltimore—that are working to give students a voice in local education issues. The three young speakers who were current students leading change for at-risk youth in their communities talked passionately about their experiences and successes as young leaders taking action to fix important aspects of education to better meet the needs of young people.
