Young Americans: Untapped Potential, Ticking Clock

In a Feb. 2014 interview with Dan Bigman of Forbes, Opportunity Nation’s Executive Director Mark Edwards shared his thoughts about America’s current economic conditions, and what the future might hold. He focused some of his responses on the need for more access to opportunity among young Americans. Here’s one exchange:

Young Americans represent our biggest untapped potential. They are loyal, motivated and hard working, but they need a chance to gain valuable skills. The clock is ticking for this population, nearly 6 million of whom are currently not in school or working. We have to move fast to help them succeed in the global economy.

Opportunity Nation is a bipartisan, cross-sector national campaign made up of more than 250 non-profits, businesses, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, community organizations, and individuals all working together to expand economic opportunity and close the opportunity gap in America.
