Young People Praise Passage of DREAM Act in the House, Call on the Senate to Follow Suit

December 8, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC -- Statement of Angela Peoples, Policy and
Advocacy Manager at Campus Progress (the youth division of the Center for
American Progress), on the passage of the DREAM Act in the House this evening:

“Wednesday evening, members of the House of
Representatives cast a historic vote for the DREAM Act by a vote of 216-198.
The House of Representatives responded to the voices of hundreds of thousands
of undocumented young people and their allies across the country telling them
to pass this fiscally responsible, common sense legislation.

Campus Progress is proud to stand with the DREAMers who
want nothing more than to give back to the only country they call home. We now call
on the Senate to vote their conscience and pass this bipartisan bill. Not only
does it represent a return on the investment we have already made in these
young people, it’s sound policy that will benefit all of us — documented and
undocumented alike.”
